Race Information
What is BUDDY'S Race Against Cancer?
BUDDY'S Race Against Cancer is a 5K Walk 'n Run* that raises funds for Thompson Cancer Survival Center's Cancer Outreach Services program.
BUDDY'S Race Against Cancer is more than just a race-it's a day filled with food, fun and entertainment for all. If you're not a runner, you can still participate by walking in the 5K. If you prefer a shorter distance, take a stroll in our "Walk in the Park."
BUDDY'S Race Against Cancer is really about the fight against cancer. The race is a perfect opportunity to honor loved ones battling cancer and remember those who so courageously fought the disease and are no longer with us. Survivors are encouraged to take part in our "Tribute to Survivors" and celebrate their triumphs in their cancer journey.
*Course certification is available at www.totalracesolutions.com; certification code TN07029MS.

Why Should I Get Involved?

The mobile mammography van stands ready to assist medically underserved indidivuals throughout East Tennessee. |
Since its inception, the BUDDY'S Race has raised over $2.6 million for cancer screenings and education throughout East Tennessee and Southern Appalachia. Thanks to BUDDY'S Race Against Cancer supporters and participants, thousands of medically-underserved individuals have received life-saving screenings and information each year. Unlike some fundraisers, proceeds raised by the Race go to fight cancer locally. Through prevention, early detection and education, we are saving lives.

Who is Buddy?
Buddy's Race is named for BUDDY'S bar-b-q founder, Buddy Smothers, who valiantly battled cancer until his death in 1992.
People knew Buddy for his delicious barbecue, and they knew him as a good businessman. But more importantly, they knew him for supporting the community.
"We were looking for a way to do our part in the fight against cancer as a corporation and a family," said Suzanne Lindsey, Buddy's daughter and co-owner of BUDDY'S bar-b-q restaurants. "The Race provided the perfect opportunity to get involved."
In his memory, the BUDDY'S Race Against Cancer began 15 years ago. Since its inception, the race has raised $2.6 million. Because of the BUDDY'S Race, thousands of people in rural and medically underserved areas receive cancer screenings and education that help save lives.
